Islamabad; October 21, 2010: President Asif Ali Zardari today asked the government to make full use of satellite imaging and Google mapping system in all sectors of economy to accelerate the pace of development and strategic projects on the one hand and ensure greater transparency on the other. The President said this during a briefing given to him at the Aiwan-e- Sadr today on the status of implementation of Satellite Imaging project. The briefing given by Senator Sughra Imam was also attended by Mr. M. Salman Faruqui, Secretary General to the President, Malik Asif Hayat, secretary to the President, Mr. Ashraf M Hayat, secretary planning commission, Mr. Asif Bajwa, secretary statistics, Lt Gen(R) Shahid Niaz, Member Planning Commission, Spokesperson to the President Mr. Farhatullah Babar, Maj Gen Munawar Ahmaed Solehria, surveyor General of Pakistan, Mr. Imran Iqbal, Member SUPARCO, Mr. Khizar Hayat Khan, Census Commissioner and other senior government officials. The President said that the use of latest technology for monitoring and evaluation would help keep a check on quality and progress of developmental projects and also counter corrupt practices because of greater transparency. The meeting also reviewed the progress on implementation of decisions taken in previous meetings that includes launching of spatial Database for Pakistan, digitalization of the storage of land revenue maps, survey of Districts Larkana, Shaheed Benazirabad and Karachi, the pilot project undertaken for the socio-economic and demographic mapping of selected areas in district Jehlum and calculation of man- hours for the exercise done in District Jhelum to work out requirement for other districts. The President advised the related government departments including Planning Commission, the Geological Survey of Pakistan and SUPARCO to pool their resources and work in close coordination to develop and implement an effective satellite monitoring system. << Go Back |
